Jilin International Studies University (JISU) is a key provincial university in China’s northeastern Jilin Province. Founded in 1995, we have achieved remarkable accomplishments over 30 years with support from China’s Ministry of Education (MOE), Jilin Provincial Committee
of CPC, Jilin Provincial Government and all sectors of society. JISU is the first privately-funded non-profit higher education institution in China, the only pilot unit for the national education system reform project “Exploring Non-Profit Private University Models”, the first private university authorized to grant master’s degrees, the only private university included in the National Midwestern Universities Basic Capacity Building Project, and the only private institution upgraded to university status. JISU has been listed in Jilin Provincial High-Level Applied Universities (Category A) and approved as a Doctoral Degree Granting Unit (Class A+). It has ranked first for six consecutive years (2020-2025) in the ShanghaiRanking’s Ranking of Chinese Private Universities.
I. Programs Offered
JISU offers 43 postgraduate programs for international students. For specific categories and programs, please refer to the attached 2026 International Student Postgraduate Program Directory.
II. Application Requirements
1.Applicants must comply with Chinese laws and regulations as well as university policies, respect Chinese customs and traditions, and demonstrate good moral character. Applicants should have no criminal record, and be in good health.
2. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens holding valid ordinary foreign passports, aged under 50 (born after August 31, 1976). Applicants who apply for scholarships should be aged under 35 (born after August 31, 1991 ).
3.Applicants for master’s degree programs shall hold a degree equivalent to a Chinese bachelor’s degree or higher.
4. Language Proficiency Requirements for Programs Taught in Chinese
(1)International Chinese Education program: Applicants must simultaneously achieve a score of 210 or above in HSK Level 5 and 65 or above in HSKK Advanced.
(2)Programs of other programs: A score of 195 or above in HSK Level 5.
5. Language Proficiency Requirements for Programs Taught in English
(1)Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency, with an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 80.
(2)Applicants whose previous education was delivered entirely in English are not required to provide English language test scores such as IELTS or TOEFL, but must submit relevant supporting documents (e.g., a certificate of full English instruction issued by the graduating institution).
III. Application Period
November 15, 2025 – June 30, 2026
Applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship must submit their online applications by January 25, 2026.
IV. Application Process
1. Online Application: Log into the JISU International Student Online Service System for Application(https://jisu.at0086.cn/student), register an account, fill in the application information, and upload electronic copies of the application documents as required in Part V.
2. Payment of Registration Fee: The Registration Fee is 400 RMB. It must be remitted after submitting the online application information (see the attached Basic Information of Jilin International Studies University’s Bank Account for details). The fee is non-refundable once paid. Applications without the application fee paid will not be accepted.
3. The Assessment: For details of the examination arrangement, please refer to Part V.
V. Application Documents
1. Original Application Form for Postgraduate International Students of the Jilin International Studies University. Please log into the JISU International Student Online Service System for application, then download and print.
2. Original notarized copies (or authenticated copies) of the highest academic degree or diploma certificate. Only Chinese or English versions are accepted; documents in other languages must be accompanied by original notarized or authenticated translations.
Final-year undergraduate/postgraduate students may temporarily omit the graduation certificate and degree certificate, but must submit the original certificate of expected graduation issued by their current institution. If admitted, they must provide the original degree certificate (or its original notarized/authenticated copy) in Chinese or English during registration for admission, for verification by JISU’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation. Failure to provide the required documents on time will result in the cancellation of admission qualification.
3. Original academic transcripts or their original notarized/authenticated copies. Only Chinese or English versions are accepted; documents in other languages must be accompanied by original notarized or authenticated translations.
4. Two letters of recommendation. The letters must be issued by scholars with the title of associate professor (or above) or equivalent professional titles, or senior professionals in relevant fields (no fixed format is required; please indicate the recommender’s title and contact information, and the recommender must sign the letter in person).
5. Language test scores. For programs taught in Chinese, applicants must provide an HSK score report with a test date on or after November 1, 2023; for programs taught in English, applicants must provide proof of English proficiency, such as an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 80, with the test date on or after November 1, 2023.
6. Study Plan. Either in Chinese or English, with a word count of approximately 1,500.
7. Copy of the personal information page of the passport. The valid period of the passport must be on or after June 30, 2027. For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality, they must provide the certificate of cancellation of original Chinese household registration and the certificate materials for renunciation of Chinese nationality. For applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth, if both or one of their parents is/are Chinese citizen(s) and the applicant has ever had Chinese household registration and Chinese nationality, the applicant must submit the certificate of cancellation of their own Chinese household registration and the certificate materials for renunciation of Chinese nationality.
8. Certificate of No Criminal Record. Applicants must submit a valid Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the public security organ of their place of residence, which should generally be issued within 6 months prior to the application submission date. Only Chinese or English versions are accepted; documents in other languages must be accompanied by original notarized or authenticated translations.
9. (Optional) Resume, publicly published academic papers, patents obtained or other research achievements. Either original or copy is acceptable.
10. Additional documents required for applicants of Chinese Government Scholarship:
(1) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship. This form is automatically generated after filling in the Chinese Government Scholarship Application System; for details, please refer to the Scholarship section on the Admission webpage of our university.
(2) Copy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. The original shall be kept by the applicant themselves. This form is uniformly printed by Chinese health and quarantine authorities and must be filled in English; applicants shall strictly conduct the examinations in accordance with the items required in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners; the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners will be invalid if there are missing examination items, no personal photo attached, no (joint seal) on the photo, or no signature and seal of the doctor and hospital. In view of the 6-month validity period of the examination results, applicants are requested to arrange the physical examination time accordingly.
All the above-mentioned materials must meet the following requirements:
All application materials must be in Chinese or English; for materials not in Chinese or English, original notarized translations must be provided.
The university may require applicants to submit additional supplementary materials based on specific circumstances.
Applications with incomplete online materials or from applicants who fail to pay the registration fee will not be accepted.
Applicants must ensure that all application information and materials provided are true and accurate. If the university verifies any falsehood, the applicant will not be admitted or will have their admission qualification cancelled; those who have already enrolled will have their admission qualification or student status cancelled.
VI. Assessment
The Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of JISU will conduct a preliminary eligibility review of applicants in accordance with the requirements of the admission brochure; after applicants pass the preliminary review, the school/college will conduct an academic review based on the materials submitted by applicants and organize an interview. The university will select candidates on a merit-based basis and finally determine the proposed admission list.
VII. Admission
Starting from June 2026, JISU will notify applicants of the admission results via the application system and email. Admitted students must register on time in accordance with the requirements specified in the Admission Notice and other enrollment materials. After being admitted to our university, students shall not hold dual or multiple student statuses.
VIII. Study Mode, Program Duration and Tuition Fees
The study mode is full-time. The program duration for academic master's degree students (both Chinese-taught and English-taught programs) is three years.

X. Accommodation and Visa
(1) On-campus Accommodation
JISU provides double rooms in its International Student Apartment.
After receiving the electronic admission notice, applicants do not need to book a dormitory; the university will arrange it uniformly.
(2) Visa
Admitted students shall apply for an X1 visa to China at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country with the printed electronic version of the Admission Notice and the Application Form for Study Visa in China (JW201/202) by themselves.
